Mary Alice is a country girl at heart; so when she told me she wanted her bridal portraits taken at one of the best outdoor locations in the Upstate of South Carolina, it came as no surprise. Lindsey Plantation is a beautiful rustic wedding venue, located near Greenville, SC. It features converted horse stables for weddings and receptions, an intimate gazebo and garden area, and an outdoor ceremony location situated on a hill with magnificent mountain views in the distance. We got started with Mary Alice’s portrait session about an hour or so before sunset. It was a bright sunny day, which may seem good for photography, but the lighting can be quite harsh and not very flattering for bridal portraits. But the sky was a beautiful blue, so I opted to use a technique that I haven’t tried in quite some time in order to create some dramatic images. I hooked up a light and called for my voice-activated light stand (a.k.a the magnificent Brittany Smith) who had joined me to help and learn more about photography. We created images that featured the beautiful wooden fence, and the blue mountains in the background, and then headed to the barn for a few inside images. The sky started getting colorful, so we headed out again to get some bridal photography that showcased the magnificent grandeur surrounding Lindsey Plantation! After the sunset faded, Mary Alice wanted to get a few more photographs, so I posed her on a bench which was in a more wooded area, and created a more edgy look. For the final portrait, Mary Alice wanted a fun artistic image, showing her in the background, with her boots out front; kind of cool. At that point, it was getting a bit late, and everyone felt like we had captured everything we wanted for the bridal session; so we called it a night. Thanks Mary Alice, for allowing me to photography your bridal portrait session, and congratulations on your wedding!
