Flying Pig Photography is proud to be the official photographer for Greenville Light Opera Works or (GLOW),  is South Carolina’s only professional arts organization specializing in comic opera, operetta and musical theatre.
In its Main Stage Season, which is hosted by Centre Stage Theatre of Greenville, GLOW offers full-scale productions of operetta and musical theatre from favorites such as Gilbert and Sullivan, Johann Strauss, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim. With the Off Stage Series, GLOW works in collaboration with other Upstate arts organizations to produce small-scale and cabaret style performances ranging from concerts to one-act operettas. The photography shown here is for the upcoming show promotions (see below for details). Boy, if only all of my photography sessions were this much fun!! : )

The Mikado

Gilbert and Sullivan
September 8 & 9 at 8pm
September 10 at 2pm & 8pm
Centre Stage Theatre

The Mikado is revered as one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s finest masterpieces of operetta. The scene opens on the make-believe Japanese town of Titipu, where the great Mikado (the emperor of all) has decreed that flirting is against the law. But what can you do when love is in the air? Wackiness ensues when Nanki-Poo, the not- too- bright son of the Mikado, and a narcissistic schoolgirl, Yum-Yum, fall in love with each other despite their respective engagements to the “elderly and ugly” Katisha and Ko-Ko, an ex-tailor-turned-Lord High Executioner. The Mikado brings to life some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular comic characters. It also contains hum-worthy hits like “Three Little Maids ”, “A Wand’ring Minstrel, I” ,“A More Humane Mikado” and “Here’s a How-de-Do”.

ROCK OPERA!

Hits from Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, Pippin and Godspell
March 16 at 8pm
March 17 at 2pm and 8pm
Centre Stage Theatre

Throughout the 60s and 70s, rock musicals took over the stages of Broadway, beginning with the 1968 hippie inspired hit Hair. ROCK OPERA! will transport you back to that psychedelic age, when bellbottoms were cool and the love flowed freely. This one act concert will feature an awesome ensemble of singers and 5 piece rock band, all performing groovy tunes like “Good Morning Sunshine”, “I Don‘t Know How to Love Him”, “Pinball Wizard” “Magic to Do”, and “Day By Day”.

Don Pasquale

A comic opera by Donizetti
June 14, 15, 16 at 8pm
June 17 at 3pm
Centre Stage Theatre

Ernesto stands to inherit a fortune from his uncle, Don Pasquale, but only if he forsakes Norina, the woman he loves. Dr. Malatesta has a wild plan to help his friend, and in true opera buffa fashion, hilarity ensues, complete with a sham marriage, a slap in the face, rampant overspending, and disguise. Full of humor and poignancy, the story ends with true love conquering all. Don Pasquale’s uproarious plot and sublime music combine to make this one of Donizetti’s finest operas.
